That is the question every NFL team had to answer when it came to Shadeur Sanders. Is he a good quarterback? Certainly. I mean, his number is retired so you KNOW he’s like, good. It can’t all by hype, right? RIGHT?!?!
The NFL is a multi-billion dollar business. There are 32 teams and I PROMISE you that if a team thinks that Sanders can help them improve, they’ll pick him. But is the juice worth the squeeze?
Is it worth having Deion Sanders looming around second-guessing coaching decisions and drawing attention to his backup QB kid? Is it worth the media shitstorm? Is it worth the potential locker room issues? Is he THAT good? The answer, at least into the 4th round of the NFL draft is no… We don’t think he’s worth it.
Listen, he’s not the first talented athlete to see their stock fall because of those intangibles. Colin Kaepernick on talent alone could certainly at LEAST hold a clipboard for an NFL team. Trevor Bauer is a Cy Young winning pitcher that can’t get a job in baseball (And the Pirates should 100% take a shot on him, ps.) but teams have a business decision to make, and they all seem to have seen the same thing. Overrated passer, weak arm, more talented (5 so far) quarterbacks available and perhaps most importantly – shitty attitude. Did you see his “draft room?” You think a team like the Pittsburgh Steelers would allow some 22 year old to bring THAT vibe to their organization and locker room?
It’s not some big conspiracy. It’s not a kid getting “blackballed” for some unknown reason. Sometimes, the juice just isn’t worth the squeeze.
