Spiffy’s One Week Post-Broken Neck Official Follow Up

🥃 1/2 Flat Jagerbomb. Would not recommend.

I wanted to give yinz a quick update on my recovery. First and VERY Foremost – Thank you to everyone who reached out about gigs and work and generally just making sure that financially I wasn’t TOO banged up by this. If you saw me trying to tough it out on stage and wondered “why” it is because I have some fairly heavy family situations I’m carrying right now – And my neurosurgeon said I wasn’t allowed to life anything heavier than a 1/2 gallon of milk. In my heart, I couldn’t let them down.

Recovery is… a challenge. I was discharged from the hospital on Monday, and right now my entire focus is on pain management, resting and healing. Yes, person who knows me even a little bit – I am ABSOLUTELY crawling up the walls. The trick we are trying to figure out is how to best be productive within smaller windows. For example – When I take my pain meds they take about 30 minutes to “kick in” and then I have another 30 minutes or so of useful “work” time where I am trying to catch up on emails, get back to wedding clients (Still have 2025 dates for Walk of Love!) and book some Rock Band Karaoke corporate and campus events.

And then… I get sleepy haha

Pass out for a few hours, wake up when the meds wear off, rinse and repeat.

I’m making awesome progress. The fact that I am one week from a VERY invasive surgery on my head and able to write this rambling Facebook post should provide you all with a sense of comfort and relief. I know it does for me…. Although that MAY be the painkillers talking.

My goal assuming rehab goes well is to be back to Key West in a few weeks and feeling physically better than I have in years. It has been so helpful for my mental health to know that I have a place to come back to on the island, and while I’ll always miss Commander Data, I’m happy to be the “Cool Uncle” for Lainey. Data DOES make killer wedding soup… when my mom helps him, I guess.

I am going to be looking for a gym buddy and an accountabila-buddy and please, do not hesitate to take a minute to check in on me. It’s been a pretty draining stretch on my physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual health. I’m a big fan of positive reinforcement – Even if sometimes that comes in the form of tough love.

As long as there is love, I’ll live.
